Does access need an in-person look?
Difficult entrances, tight routes or uncertain truck access may need your estimator at the property.
Does an unusual item need measuring?
A recording can show a piece, but it does not verify its dimensions or how it will leave the home.
Would the customer need help recording?
A visit can suit someone who cannot film independently or wants to walk through the decisions face to face.
When those questions are settled
A customer-recorded walkthrough can give your estimator an inventory to review remotely. They check the draft and decide whether the recording is enough before quoting.
Keep a visit for the jobs that need your team there.
Where each approach fits
In-home surveys
Choose a visit when your estimator needs to inspect access in person, measure an unusual piece or help a customer who cannot record the home. Face-to-face conversation can also suit customers who want someone to walk through the decisions with them.
MoveVision
Consider MoveVision when a customer can clearly film the rooms and your estimator can assess the recorded inventory remotely. Review items against the video, separate moving from staying, record each stop’s access notes, then build the quote in the same job record.
The workflow, side by side
- Being at the property
- In-home surveysYour estimator travels to the home for the survey appointment.
- MoveVisionThe customer records the rooms from their phone. Your estimator reviews remotely.
- Investigating an unusual item
- In-home surveysYour estimator can look closely, measure it and discuss handling while present.
- MoveVisionUse the video and photo close-ups, correct the item’s size, and follow up when more information is needed.
- Understanding access
- In-home surveysYour estimator can inspect the route through the property in person.
- MoveVisionRecord floors, elevator, parking, access notes and contacts for each stop. Confirm anything the recording does not establish.
- Recording item decisions
- In-home surveysYour estimator documents what is moving and any special instructions during the visit.
- MoveVisionThe customer can check moving or staying. Your estimator records item plans and handling flags in the reviewed inventory.
- Preparing the crew
- In-home surveysShare the notes, inventory and other records produced by your survey process.
- MoveVisionAssigned crew can see stops, the map, inventory, tasks and notes in their phone browser, with prices hidden.
What to plan for
A recording does not physically inspect the property or verify measurements. Your estimator must resolve missing information and decide whether a visit is needed. This workflow comparison does not determine any survey or estimate requirements that apply to your business or a particular move.
Questions before you choose
- Can a video survey replace every in-home survey?
- No single approach suits every move. Your estimator should decide whether the recording provides enough information, and arrange a visit when access, measurements, unusual items or the customer’s needs call for one.
- What happens to items the AI does not recognize?
- Items outside the cube table remain as rows for your estimator to size. Your estimator can also add an item, change its size or cubic feet, and flag special handling after checking the recording.
- Can we use both approaches?
- Yes. Offer a self-recorded survey where it fits and keep in-home appointments for jobs that need them. Your team remains responsible for checking the inventory and resolving questions before quoting.
